A Crisis of Will
1000s of websites, books and magazines exist that can help you "Go Green" from simple recycling up to creating a zero energy home. The first step is to decide that you want to make a change. The average U.S. household spends more than $1,500 annually on leisure and personal travel. The average "Boomer" generation household spends nearly $3,000 annually in the same manner! For about $1,500 the average person can reduce their utility bills by 10 to 30%, make their home significantly greener, healthier and more comfortable. So this year, consider making a statement. Take steps to create a more environmentally-friendly future.

(The Earth will create a "Green Home" when it can.)
"Green" is a non-technical way to describe all this. It is a useful term, because it captures some of the emotional component associated with owning your own home or just living somewhere special. Other terms for describing environmentally neutral homes include: sustainable, zero energy, smart homes, LEED and home performance. No title is honest unless it is backed-up with hard numbers. Your home (and lifestyle in the broader context) need to be measured to establish environmental benchmarks. Benchmarks include but are not limited to: Energy used; Types, toxicity and amounts of materials/resources consumed; Amounts of materials reused and recycled; and Indoor air quality.
Description of the Business:
Hap Haven created US Green Home to help to you save energy, be more comfortable, clean up the environment and increase national security. US Green Home does this through the information posted on this web site, its Building Performance Curricula and publications, as well as, through contractor trainings around the country.
A more detailed energy assessment is right for you if you have:
A drafty house
Cold rooms
High heating bills
Wet or moldy basement
A desire to be more energy independent
A desire to help the environment
As a by-product of home performance work, homeowners are more comfortable, save money, help the environment, and create a more durable and healthy place to live.
Philosophy:
My dream is peace among the people of the world.
OK, that's a big goal, but why not?
Historically, people have fought for resources such as wood, water, and oil.
In my line of business, I choose decentralized power and conservation as the path to a peaceful future, instead of big oil and pollution.
In more general terms, my goal is to foster self-reliance among individuals and families.
Self-reliance is not isolation but is the power to live well with the least possible impact on the environment.
Being self-reliant reduces the physical, emotional and economic tensions that promote conflict on all levels. Energy, food, health, shelter and transportation are all major components of a self-reliance lifestyle. US Green Home focuses on the energy-home-owner interface.
