U.S. Green Home

"Greening America, One Home at a Time!"
Costs and Benefits of Energy Audits and Associated Work

"We took Hap's advice and saw our gas usage reduced by 40% compared to last year."    Deborah W.,

A Crisis of Will
1000s of websites, books and magazines exist that can help you "Go Green" from simple recycling up to creating a zero energy home.  The first step is to decide that you want to make a change.   U.S. Green Home is here to help you actualize that change without costing you a chunk of change. The average U.S. household spends more than $1,500 annually on leisure and personal travel.  The average "Boomer" generation household spends nearly $3,000 annually in the same manner!  For about $1,500 the average person can reduce their utility bills by 10 to 30%, make their home significantly greener and more comfortable.
This country has the capitol and opportunity to drastically reduce energy consumption and green house gases.  I also know that this country hasn't, until now, had the conviction to do so. So this year, consider making a statement.  Take steps to create a more environmentally-friendly future.

Benefits
:
As a by-product of the work we recommend, homeowners achieve more comfort, save money, help the environment, and create a more durable and healthy place to live.

Great Investment
Conservation, efficient appliances and renewable energy returns anywhere from 2 to 200% on your investment!  What kind of return do you get with the other investments you make?

Here is a quick check list with average returns on energy investments. Your returns will vary depending on your usage and utility rates. 100% return on your money means that the savings from the installed measure pays for the installation in one year.

100 - 200%   Repairing leaky faucets and running toilets
50 - 100%     Installing
a programmable thermostat if you
                   don’t already set your
thermostat down at night
                   or when you are away

50 - 100%     Installing compact fluorescent lights
20 - 40%      Insulating and air sealing a poorly insulated
                  or uninsulated attic

10 - 20%      Replacing
an old inefficient refrigerator with
                   a new Energy Star
 refrigerator
7 -  25%        Replacing
an inefficient house heater with a
                    90+% efficient condensing heater
5 - 10%        Installing a solar hot water system
3 - 10%        Installing a solar electric system
2 - 4%          Installing replacement windows

Cleaner Air, Land and Water
The cleanest kilowatt of electricity or Btu of heat is the one you don’t use.  Conserving any fuel helps clean the environment.  This includes water.  Fixing a running toilet can save tens of thousands of gallons of water over the course of a year.  Buying a front loading washer will save you electricity but also thousands of gallons of water every year.  Don’t underestimate the impact one family and one home can have on the environment.
